Mduduzi Gwija

I build SharePoint systems
that replace paperwork.

Public-sector professional by day, builder by habit. I turn slow, manual processes into tools people actually use, and I'm looking for the next chance to grow professionally in IT.

01 About me

From public administration to building the systems it runs on.

I'm Mduduzi, based in Cape Town. I hold an Honours degree in Public Administration and work in the public sector as an Institutional Coordination Officer in a bursary management unit, supporting university bursary students. It's a public administration role, but I also design and develop SharePoint systems for my organisation, and IT is where I want to build my career.

My interest in IT began at university, when a first-year Information Systems module turned out to be my favourite part of the degree. I then worked as a student assistant on campus, joined the public service as a graduate intern, and kept noticing the same thing: good people losing hours to spreadsheets, paper forms and email chains. So I started building. Power Automate flows, an automated lease register, SharePoint sites, then full web apps backed by real databases.

Today I have shipped production tools at work and independent apps on my own, and I run Novela Solutions Africa on the side. Now I want to branch into IT professionally, keep expanding my experience and learn alongside people who build for a living. If your team values curiosity and follow-through, let's talk.

Every step added something new to the toolkit, and the next one is already in motion.

Where I started building systems at work. I designed and structured SharePoint sites, document libraries and permissions, built a Power Automate register that logs and tracks HOD enquiries, and created an automated lease register with a Power Apps front end on Microsoft Lists and Power Automate to monitor leases and expiry dates. I also trained staff to use the new tools.

Bachelor of Administration & Honours in Public Administration

    University of the Western Cape

In my first year I took an Information Systems module and it clicked. Seeing how data, people and processes fit together into one system was the part of the degree I enjoyed most, and one of my strongest results (an A). That module sparked a love for information systems that I have followed ever since, first at work and then in my own projects. I completed the degree, with Project Management and Public Sector Financial Management along the way, and my Honours in 2024.

    Branching into IT

    In progress

Branching into IT: my first priority is an NQF 7 (or other recognised) qualification in IT, followed by industry certifications such as CompTIA to build on it, while I look for a professional IT role where I can keep learning.
